Waterbased Ink vs. Discharge Ink
What is Waterbased Ink?
Unlike oil based plastisol ink, waterbased ink is eco-friendly and generally give a softer feel.
We use a two types of Waterbased Ink:
- Waterbased and rubber ink which has a good stretch and a high opacity for deeper colour.
- Standard waterbased, this is normally used for light coloured garments or printed over a white ‘underbase’ layer.
What is Discharge Ink?
Ok we know, this sounds disgusting, but as far as screen printing goes it’s actually an amazing ink.
Discharge ink is also waterbased and is printed in almost the same way as conventional waterbased inks
We use CCI Discharge inks which are an eco-friendly, premium quality ink. We use the CMS range to mix Pantone matched inks
We love using this ink because it give the best feeling print. Once the print is washed the print area feels just like the rest of the t-shirt.
How Discharge Ink Works
When printed and put through a dryer, discharge ink strips the garment colour (bleaches it) and replaces that colour with the pigment in the ink. Essentially re-dyeing the fabric. This results in that soft / no-hand feel.
